100% donated to shelters!

While no one enjoys tax time, there was one outcome to celebrate this season: Four Foot Press is delighted to report they donated 100% of proceeds from 2009 I Like Dogs book sales to shelters and rescues!

And we're keeping up the good deeds in 2010, with both author and illustrator making the rounds on school tours in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Highlights included an invitation for author Debbie Cheehy to present "Making a Difference with Words" to the Independent Catholic Library Association (ICLA), Elementary Division of the Archdiocese of Washington DC.

Illustrator Carol Hilliard teamed up with rural shelters across central Pennsylvania, presenting assemblies to four elementary schools, where children learned to draw dogs and cats from their local rescues.  School penny drives raised over $4000 for homeless pets!  Many thanks to all the schools and children for enthusiastically supporting the I Like Dogs "Help Us Help Them" tour.

JUNE 13, 2009 • A DAY AT THE MUSEUM

NCMdraw

Illustrator Carol Hilliard was invited to present I Like Dogs at an all day event showing kids how to "Take Action" by helping animals in need. Drawing lessons featuring local adoptable pets was just one stop on the busy roster. Other activities included Catnip Creations where kids made toys for the cats at the Washington Animal Rescue League. Children also learned how to care for birds by making their own birdfeeders— out of bagels! All in all a very fun day.

Illustrator Carol Hilliard was delighted to present I Like Dogs to almost 500 K-3rd graders at James Burd Elementary School in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. After her presentation about drawing dogs, Carol helped kick off a month-long school fundraiser "Pocket Change for Pets" to benefit a local shelter, Better Days Animal League. Four Foot Press pitched in the first donation, presenting the shelter with dog food, dog bowls, a toy and a portion of book sales from the afternoon event. Be sure to check back at the end of the month when we announce the total amount raised for Better Days. Over $500 was donated in the first week! GREAT JOB James Burd Elementary!

FEBRUARY 20, 2009 • SCHOOL AUTHOR VISIT

Author Debbie Cheehy had the pleasure of reading I Like Dogs to five 1st grade classes at Ellis Elementary School in Manassas, Virginia. Teacher Ms. Myers followed up with these kind words:

Ms. Cheehy,

You were absolutely wonderful, the classes loved your book and your poem. I hope that I see your amazing books in the front window of Barnes and Noble someday soon :)  Thank you so much for the visit and great bookmarks; we learned a tremendous amount about writing!
